Summary:
Skilled technical work in sample collection, analysis, and treatment of power plant water, steam, and process water systems.
Additionally, skilled technical work in environmental sample collection, analysis, and reporting.
Job Duties/
Responsibilities:
Performs chemical laboratory analyses and procedures to determine properties or concentrations of various materials, trace metals, water quality and related testing.
Performs routine chemical laboratory procedures such as sample preparation, apparatus cleaning and inventory monitoring and control, including reordering and maintaining adequate stock levels of consumable items.
Calibrates, adjusts and otherwise modifies performance characteristics of laboratory equipment to obtain satisfactory operation, including compliance with regulatory requirements.
Conducts tests and investigations in connection with operational concerns/issues of a technical nature, such as water quality and corrosion.
Reads, records and interprets standard chemistry test descriptions, instruction manuals, drawings, and apparatus diagrams.
Prepares reports, sketches, logs, and other up-to-date records of work performed.
Furnishes technical expertise and advice to construction, regional and other personnel as required.
Informs concerned parties regarding test results within the required time frame; advises on need for major repairs or outside technical assistance.
Monitors, corrects or reports on problems with permanently connected laboratory supplies of water, air, and combustible and high-purity gases.
Calculation of chemical or material quantities, based upon instrument readings or other measurement of other quantities, such as weight, volume, temperature, and time.
Operates a wide variety of chemical and electronic instruments such as moisture, pH, and other chemical laboratory apparatus.
Maintains instruments, apparatus, and other test equipment in good working order.
Performs preventive maintenance, cleans, lubricates and adjusts electromechanical equipment such as automatic sampling devices, robotic preparation systems.
Enters test data and other records into computer data files as required.
Prepares chemical solutions or mixtures for use in analyses or procedures to be performed.
Provides technical direction to and/or inspects and verifies the work of construction, operating and maintenance personnel, or outside contractors, engages in chemistry laboratory activities.
Trains technicians of lower classifications.
Performs all environmental sampling as specified by designated environmental program coordinator as required for regulatory permit compliance.
Performs inspections as specified by designated environmental program coordinator for regulatory permit compliance.
Attend regulatory compliance and specific technical training as required to maintain skills to meet emerging permit work practices.
Performs routine start-up, shut-down and operation of our waste water treatment facility.
Performs daily walk-downs, rounds and inspections on areas of responsibility.
Train and qualify in second skill Multi-Skilled Operator - MSO.
Support Plant Operations as directed to ensure proper staffing and Plant availability.
The ability to work overtime as directed.
Working Conditions:
Will be required to work weekend and night shifts during periods of unit startup, outages, and emergencies.
Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
Possible exposure to hazardous conditions and various laboratory chemicals.
Possible exposure to prolonged high noise levels.
Work may require performance of tasks in extreme heat; and by entering and maneuvering within confined spaces.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED Equivalent.
4 years of related work experience.
Must have proficient working knowledge of MS office programs.
Candidates must receive a rating of Recommended on the NRG Pre-Employment Skills Assessment.
Knowledge of chemistry laboratory methods, apparatus, systems, and safety procedures.
Skill and dexterity in repair, adjustment and modification of chemistry apparatus, and delicate electromechanical components and systems.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Associate's Degree from an accredited institution with major course work in chemical, physical, environmental or biological sciences, or a related subject.
CT DPH Class II Water Treatment Plant Operator CertificationRCRA, HAZWOPER and DOT training.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Shall acquire CT DPH Class II Water Treatment Plant Operator CertificationKnowledge of EPRI standards.
Licensed powered industrial vehicle operatorFirst Aid/CPR certifiedAssist with training of Power Plant Trainees Physical Requirements:
Work requires normal color vision to distinguish the color and severity of many control and safety devices.
Work requires the use of personal protection equipment including hearing protection, eye protection, foot protection, hand protection, head protection and use of respiratory protection including self-contained breathing units.
This position requires the ability to use respiratory protection equipment in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Work at heights of over 100 feet on open grating or from aerial devices required, including the ability to climb and descend stairs and ladders.
Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform all essential job functions including the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds without assistance and to stand, kneel and stoop.
Must communicate orally, see physical surroundings, listen, hear others, respond to oral commands, and demonstrate good communication skills.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
