Vehicle Description 1947 Mercury Eight Convertible Purchased new in 1947 by Calvin Crosby in Watertown NY.
The second owner was from New Hampshire and about 45 years ago, the current owner bought the car.
Roughly 15 years ago he had the car shipped out and fully restored.
Upon return, he drove the car regularly and was well known around town not only for this immaculate Mercury but also for his antique tractor collection.
Over the last few years though, with his health in a slight decline, he drove the Merc less and less.
Unfortunately, he passed away not long ago and now the estate is selling this wonderful automobile.
The car starts easily, runs and drives well.
The odometer shows 47K miles and that is believed to be correct.
The original, 239 Ford V8 puts out roughly 100 HP and moves the car along nicely through the three speed manual transmission.
Dual exhaust gives this car a great flat head V8 rumble.
Hydraulic drum brakes bring the car to a hault.
The car shows only some minor oxidation on the painted frame and suspension components and is completely rot free.
Tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown 6.
70x15.
The interior is in very good condition, having been restored with the car in the original Naugahyde, and includes optional under dash heat.
The original gauges work correctly and the power convertible top works as it should and is in very good condition as well.
The car does have a couple of foibles The fender top trim is missing as is the original radio.
The family thinks they may be able to find the missing items and if found they will most certainly will go with the car.
There are also a couple of chips in the paint.
This car is ready to enjoy immediately and can be taken out to shows, cruise nights etc and as a less seen Mercury, with the different grill and additional chrome/shiny bits, will definitely draw attention.
Asking price on this great example is $31,000 Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to see her or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for the interest.
